 Problems loading Powerpoint files (.pptx)
Solution If you are having trouble opening Powerpoint files on PCs on campus it may be because the files are from a newer version of Powerpoint than is installed on the machines in the university.

The university systems use Office 2003 as opposed to the new Office 2007 version (the 2007 version is often shipped with new machines running Windows Vista and so some people mistakenly refer to the files as "Vista" files).

Office 2007 Powerpoint files can be recgonised because they have a ".pptx" filename extension instead of the old ".ppt" extension.

To open Powerpoint 2007 files on campus use one of the following methods:

1) Install the Office 2007 Converters
Go to "Networked Applications" then "Updates" then "Application Updates"
Select the item called "Office 2007 Converters"
This will install converters which allow the install version of Powerpoint to open 2007 (.pptx) files

2) Use the Powerpoint Viewer
In file manager (or My Computer) go to "G:\AppWinXP\PowerpointViewer"
Run the "PPTVIEW.EXE" file
In the file dialogue which appears select the Powerpoint file you want to run

3) Copy the Powerpoint Viewer to a USB stick so you can use it elsewhere
In file manager (or My Computer) go to "G:\AppWinXP"
Copy the entire "PowerpointViewer" directory to another location (e.g. USB stick or external hard drive)
The PPTVIEW.EXE file in that directory should run on any PC under Windows XP or Windows Vista
