RESLAN - 2009/10. Halls of residence student network registration
Solution Please be aware that all 2008-9 registrations for RESLAN (Residences
Network) will be deleted Friday 11th September, starting at
10am.

Work will then be carried out on RESLAN, with the result that the whole of
RESLAN will be unavailable from tomorrow at 10am until 9am on Wednesday
16th September. This is the date that RESLAN access for 2009/10 residents
officially begins.

** Unlike previous years, wireless registrations for the 2008/9 residents
will NOT be deleted at the same time as the RESLAN registrations, so there
will be no need for them to re-register their laptops for CU-WiFi when
they return. **

The vast majority of the
expected 5500 students will of course be able to register and connect to
the internet automatically via Cardiff Campus Manager (a cable and an
instruction sheet will be waiting for them in their room).

If there should be any problems with this automatic process however,
please be aware that the following arrangements have been made -

1. If the Cardiff Campus Manager page does not come up on the screen
automatically, students are advised to first work through a
Troubleshooting Guide - on the web at
http://www.cf.ac.uk/insrv/it/network/reslan/insrv-reslan-troubleshooting-guide.html
and also available from various locations, such as Residence receptions,
41 Park Place, Julian Hodge Study Centre, the IT Shop etc.

2. If problems continue, or for any other issues, INSRV will staff a
RESLAN advice clinic - open 10am to 4pm, on the First Floor of the
Students' Union, Park Place (directly opposite the IT Shop) for the period
Wednesday 16th September to Friday 2nd October, including the weekend of
September 19/20. Students are asked not to bring their computers with
them when they visit, as this is an advice clinic only. If we need to see
their computers we will make an appointment for them to come in at another
time, and to a different location.

3. RESLAN 'hotline' - 029 2087 4605 - for 'first aid' help only. This
will be available between 16th September and 2nd October, 9am to 5pm.
However, due to the potential volume of calls and the difficulties of
accurately diagnosing an issue over the telephone, it is strongly
recommended that students are advised to make a personal visit to the
Clinic rather than telephone.

4. If there are problems with the computers themselves, for example
viruses, non-licensed operating system, hardware faults - students will be
advised to visit the IT Shop, First Floor of the Students' Union, Park
Place, as INSRV will only deal with registration and connectivity issues.
